FAQ’s – Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does blog stand for and how did blogging start?
A: Web-log – the technology started as an online diary or journal
Q: Are there legal issues associated with blogs?
A: Sometimes. Wikipedia is a good resource for links to sites, EFF and others, that give very detailed answers to specific legal questions.
Q: So is a blog a website?
A: Yes, a blog is a website that is available wherever there is a connection to the internet and if it is a public blog then anyone can see it.
Q: Can I use a blog to put stuff online fast?
A: Yes, you don’t have to know how to do programming or even HTML coding to publish blog entries or posts.
Q: Can other people put stuff on my blog too? Can you approve, delete, or edit their comments?
A: Yes, if you allow comments. The best option for this that we have found is to allow comments from anyone but let them know that their comments won’t appear on the site until you have approved them.
Q: Can you customize a blog really easily?
A: You can switch templates very easily but be careful that all your plug ins work with the new template. If you know a little HTML you can even customize your templates. This might be best left to a professional though, mostly to make sure you don’t accidentally lose any necessary code .
Q: How does Google find my blog?
A: Your blog appeals to Google because it looks like a very active website, especially if you post often. Active websites get spidered by Google more often than static sites so the keywords in your blog should get found very well.
Q: Can I delete my blog?
A: Often the answer is yes but you need to verify that with the blogging software you are using because each will have different rules. It will not immediately disappear because your blog is cached in servers all over the world. Until that information clears, which can sometimes take a while, your blog will show up. Usually there is an option in your administrative area that says something to the effect of “Delete this blog?” and you will want to check the box that says yes. Be sure you really want to do this because it is usually something that cannot be reversed.
